Georgia republicans launch early attack campaign against Stacey Abrams out of fear

A group of Georgia republicans are creating a campaign against activist, lawyer, and Democrat Stacey Abrams way ahead of the 2022 midterm elections.

Titled “Stop Stacey”, the group is targeting Abrams, claiming she will “take over” Georgia, should she run for governor again.

In the website’s mission statement, the group makes wild allegations against Abrams, calling her a “radical leftist”, and claiming she’s funded by “billionaire socialists like George Soros”.

“She [Abrams] ‘flipped’ Georgia for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. She delivered two Senate seats for Chuck Schumer. Now, she’s aiming for total control,” the statement read.

The republican strategists are aligned with Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, who won against Abrams back in 2018 by 55,000 votes, an election that she never conceded — and claims voter suppression played a vital role in the results.

Abrams has been a voting rights advocate for years. But after her defeat, she dedicated her platform to registering voters in Georgia, and is largely credited with turning the state blue in 2020, in addition to out-seating two republican incumbents in January’s Georgia runoff. Two organizations she founded called When Fair Fight and the New Georgia Project, registered more than 800,000 new voters in that time.

The creation of the Stop Stacey group signals a real fear republicans have about Abrams challenging Kemp again. With her recent media attention and continued dedication to Georgia voters, it’s no secret that Abrams has more support from Democrats than she did in 2018.

And to make matters worse for the governor, Kemp is already on thin ice with his party and is even expected to be challenged by another republican backed by former president Donald Trump.

Abrams hasn’t said much about whether or not she would run for office again and says she has remained focused on voter suppression in her state.

“Leader Abrams has made no decision about her political future,” Fair Fight CEO Lauren Groh-Wargo said in a tweet. “But here’s what I do know: GA Republicans failed on 11/3 & 1/5, with weak leaders, a disastrous COVID response, and families are suffering. Rather than a desperate distraction, perhaps they can #StartServingGeorgians.”
